“It’s like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. This space has helped me create a sense of belonging, identity and purpose."

Women’s Program Visitor

What is Wayside Chapel’s Women's Space?

Our Women’s Program was established to provide care and support to all visitors who identify as women, and non-binary people. The team works alongside women to provide trauma-informed care coordination, addressing barriers to wellbeing such as experiences of domestic and family violence, complex mental health, homelessness and financial disadvantage, criminalisation, and substance use difficulties via advocacy and referrals. The program offers care coordination support as well as community engagement activities and events.
It operates out of a dedicated space, where women can connect with each other over a cuppa. The space is a calm oasis within Wayside, offering laundry facilities, shower and toiletries, phone charging station, games, books and resources, creative activities and access to a computer. For many women, it is a welcoming place to ‘just be’.
Starting from Tuesday 13 August, the Women’s Program will host a free monthly community lunch which will be held on the first Tuesday of each month. The space will also be open for women to ‘drop-in’ and connect on every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00am-1:00pm.
