Individual volunteering

Wayside is blessed with more than 600 active volunteers who cover over 250 shifts each and every week at Wayside. Without the commitment of our volunteers, we simply could not open the doors each day.

Our volunteers are the first to greet all visitors at our front desk, to serve customers in our Op Shops and make a hot cuppa for those in need who visit our Cafés.

Our volunteers are incredibly important to us and provide the horsepower for Wayside’s program areas. Volunteers are worth over $1 million each year in terms of the time they give to us and our visitors.

Volunteers have the opportunity to contribute across all of Wayside. Your journey as a Wayside volunteer begins by attending our Volunteer Induction Session. At this session you will gain an understanding of Wayside’s mission, programs and the huge range of opportunities to be involved in our community as a volunteer.

Wayside’s Corporate Group Volunteering Program – “Awayside Days”

‘Awayside Days, our Corporate Group Volunteering Program, provides a unique way for teams of up to 10 people to develop skills, build relationships and give back to the community.

Located close to the CBD, this memorable team-building experience will involve learning about life on the streets and the work of Wayside Chapel, as well as the preparation of a two-course lunch to share with some of Sydney’s most vulnerable people – many of whom are experiencing homelessness.

Participants will gain a richer understanding of the issues surrounding homelessness, gain new perspectives on the lives of those less fortunate, and finish the day with a very full heart!

By participating in our Corporate Group Volunteering Program, your organisation can increase its social impact knowing that all proceeds go back to supporting the people in our community who need it most.

Awayside Days are held on Thursdays and Fridays, 9am to 3pm. The cost is $2,500 plus GST which covers all activities on the day, and contributes to the running of Wayside’s Café which serves over 54,000  meals each year.
