Patricia
My name is Patricia (Paddy). I live in Melbourne with my partner. I’m passionate about everyone having a fair go in life.
When I was younger, I had many visits to Sydney for counselling training, but I really only saw Wayside at a distance. I learned more by talking to people in the area that Wayside helped and also from Life Education through schools.
I really like the philosophy of ‘hand up not hand out’ at Wayside. Every person is a person, not a problem to be solved. I also like ‘love over hate’, especially in the current world we live in – no ‘us and them’.
There are no fancy flyers always asking for money all the time and the money raised goes to the people. There’s a variety of services offered for those who need them, and I love that.
Wayside sticks with my values, so a no brainer for me, really.
As far as leaving a gift to Wayside – well why wouldn’t you want to leave something to an organisation who helps people like Wayside does. It’s a worthy organisation that helps people get back on track for the longer term, not just giving a handout.
I’ve already encouraged people to do a Will. Online Will providers make it fairly quick & easy to do without the expensive costs of a solicitor which so many people just can’t afford.
What I’d like my legacy to be is: be positive. Be kind. Be open to everyone.
Thinking about the fact that I may impact future generations, I feel that there will be hope for the future where everyone can be treated equally. If someone needs a hand, then someone’s there to lend a hand.
