Kevin’s Story

Kevin

Born and raised in Ireland, Kevin is a retired accountant living on the Central Coast. He believes in standing up for the voiceless and wants to leave a legacy of kindness.

Kevin

I grew up in Ireland and have lived in Australia for almost 40 years. I worked mainly in accounting and administration for decades and managed to retire to the Central Coast about 10 years ago.

I first heard about Wayside during the 1990s. When the injecting rooms were established, there were a few conversations at work about it and while I could see pros and cons, I was mostly impressed by the fact that people at Wayside were willing to stand out and be arrested and go to jail to make the lives of drug addicts (people despised by society) safer. The fact that people there seem principled and willing to take a stand, regardless of how they were regarded by religion, politics and society in general. Moral courage is generally very scarce.

I made a Will a few years ago, and as I’ve got no children, I thought of the charities and organisations that I support and made them the beneficiaries. Wayside was one of these.

Wayside is an amazing organisation to support and contribute to at any time, and if you leave something in your Will, that’s even better.

It was very straightforward to leave a gift in my Will – just a matter of letting the solicitor know.

I’d like part of my legacy to be that I was someone who was willing to help people who were helping those most in need and those who don’t have a voice in society.

Knowing my gift could impact generations to come would make anyone feel good and it sure does me.
