Ariel’s lifelong commitment to helping others began early. Witnessing homelessness at a young age, it inspired her to support people in need.

Ariel
I am Ariel, born in Paddington in 1944.
My family – Mum, Dad, younger sister and me – lived in a very small one-bedroom flat about 15 minutes’ walk from Kings Cross. I lived there until I was 19 years old.
I’m not sure when I became aware of Wayside Chapel but feel it was there in the background. Walking to primary school in Surry Hills, I was very aware of people sleeping in doorways and found it difficult to forget that they were sleeping out in all weather.
I always wanted to help people less fortunate than me. In my early 30s, I worked in a neighborhood centre in Surry Hills. I currently live in the mountains and have befriended people experiencing homelessness, providing practical help wherever possible.
I am definitely a supporter of people doing it tough and this is the reason I wish to leave a gift in my Will to Wayside.
I highly recommend that others do the same – even if it isn’t a large amount, it will all help to alleviate the ongoing and growing challenges that Australia and the world are currently facing.
