Wayside Chapel is hosting its first virtual live crowdfunding event

Wayside Chapel is hosting a very special virtual live crowdfunding event on Wednesday 27 May at 5:30pm – 7:00pm, where you will see human compassion in action, right from your own home.

Three of Wayside’s frontline staff will be speaking about their work and how each of their teams have adapted delivering care and support to people experiencing homelessness or isolation during the changes brought on by Coronavirus.

You will hear about the two new Community Outreach programs, and about the changes in our centre-based programs (Bondi and Kings Cross).

Please see below for more information on these programs.

On the night, feel free to grab a drink and get comfy in front of your computer or mobile device, as you prepare to hear about three of Wayside’s innovative and life-changing programs and have the opportunity to help contribute to better outcomes for the people who need it most. All three programs have been adapted to best help people in crisis throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

What follows is an exciting live-pledging session which will bring a burst of meaning and joy for all involved, enabling you to increase your own personal social impact. Even from home, you will experience a sense of feel-good giving, as you change lives with the click of a button!

Find below Wayside’s three incredible programs participating in this event:

Emergency Centre-based program – Kings Cross and Bondi

Our Community Service Centres (CSC) continue to help the most vulnerable, whilst ensuring that robust health precautions have been put in place to keep people safe. Open for limited hours between 9:30am – 1pm, CSC provides basic essentials and care coordination to ensure the health and wellbeing of people in need. In the afternoons we close our doors, but provide assertive outreach and care-coordination by phone to ensure needs are met for people who are isolated and housebound.

Emergency Outreach Program – Foot Outreach

After Wayside Chapel’s doors close in the afternoon, our outreach teams hit the streets in our local area, providing care packs, meals and further support to people sleeping rough, as well as checking in on people who have secured temporary accommodation. They are a lifeline for people experiencing homelessness.

Emergency Outreach Program – Van Outreach

Driving the iconic Wayside fleet of vans, additional outreach teams deliver care packs to multiple locations around Sydney, dropping in to front yards and front doors of people who are isolated in their homes, but still in need. A visit from our outreach angels brings hope and essential items to members of our community reminding them that they are not alone, or forgotten.

Wayside Chapel has provided unconditional love, care and support for people on and around the streets of Sydney since 1964. Each year, thousands of people visit Wayside’s two centres in Kings Cross and Bondi for assistance in gaining equitable access to essential health, welfare, social and recreational services.

Wayside launched our first live crowdfunding event in 2019, on the day of Wayside’s 55th anniversary. Together, we raised over $90,000 for our three participating programs, so they can continue to offer essential support to people experiencing homelessness.

With your support, we hope to exceed last year’s target, so that Wayside Chapel can continue to love people back to life and provide the most vulnerable members of our community with access to essential services. We hope you can join us for what will be a memorable, feel-good virtual evening.

This event is in partnership with The Funding Network and supported by IAGMacquarie Group and Clayton Utz
