Christmas Day at Kings Cross
COVID-19 Update
Please note that this is a COVID-safe event with strictly limited capacity. For this reason we ask that you stick to your selected session on Christmas Day, so please aim to arrive at the start of the allocated hour timeslot that you previously selected and received a confirmation for.
Your safety is important to us, so we’ve had to impose further COVID-19 measures. At the event:
- Please check-in via the QR Code upon entry
- Masks are compulsory for all guests except when eating, and please remain seated while at the event
- Please keep to TWO people per rug for social distancing measures
- While you are at the picnic, please try to keep seated and avoid walking around except when entering and leaving. This also means we can’t have dancing
- There will be constant cleaning of touch points and surfaces
- If you are feeling unwell on the day or have recently visited a COVID-19 hotspot and have been asked to isolate at home, please don’t attend the event.
Wayside Chapel’s Christmas Day Street Party is back this year, although looking slightly different as we “roll out the red carpet” and cover the street with turf to host a COVID-safe picnic for our community. Attendees will sit on picnic blankets on Hughes Street outside Wayside and enjoy Christmas lunch, with all the trimmings, surrounded by a loving community. All are welcome to our Christmas picnic, especially people who have nowhere to go this Christmas.
To start the day, there will be a Christmas Service led by Pastor and CEO Jon Owen at 10:30am, then from 11:30am, the Christmas picnic will commence!
In every way, we are going to show people that they are loved and not forgotten. This event will be COVID-safe, and we are taking measures to ensure the safety of all attendees.
Times
9am – 10:30am: Christmas Breakfast
10:30am – 11:15am: Church Service (outside, seated)
11:30 am – 2:30pm: Lunch Service (outside, on picnic blankets)
3pm: Event finishes
Please register below and select ONE session that you ideally would like to come to. This is just to help us keep track of numbers to ensure a COVID-safe event.
Donate a Plate
For the 37,715 people experiencing homelessness in NSW, Christmas is going to be a lonely and difficult time. There will be no presents under the tree, stuffed stockings or a warm family lunch… But there is Wayside Chapel.
On Christmas Day this year, we will be hosting a special Wayside Christmas Picnic on the streets of Kings Cross, where our loving community will come together and enjoy the festivities with a delicious Christmas lunch, outside on the grass-covered street.
And over the seven days leading up to Christmas, we will host free community lunches and serve freshly cooked meals – with all the trimmings!
We need to raise $500,000 this Christmas to make sure that the vulnerable members of our community are fed and supported during what can be a lonely and difficult time of year.
Please ‘Donate a Plate’ to keep our kitchens cooking and our programs running over the entire Christmas and holiday season.
